As avid outdoor enthusiasts, we truly cherish all of its natural benefits and are committed to doing everything possible to support conservation efforts. With thru-hike season in full effect, everyone is either knee deep in their summer excursions or preparing for takeoff. With boundless options for where to plan your next thru-hike, there’s also a plethora of fun, interesting (and occasionally mysterious) facts about our favorite US trails. Joshua Tree National park is a vast expanse of diverse desert biomes, sprawling almost 800,000 acres and is just under 30 years old. It’s also a crucial part of the Mojave Desert ecosystem, housing numerous species of mammals, birds, insects and lizards. From palms to Joshua trees themselves, there’s no shortage of eco diversity to be ogled in this beautiful national park in California’s backyard.

As some of you may already know, Earth Week (and Earth Day itself) are fast approaching for the later half of April. The specific dates are April 19th-25th with Earth Day taking place on April 22nd. With the trees and flowers blossoming, and the skies clearing up, there’s really no better time of year for us to reflect on the beautiful place we call home. More importantly, examining the effects that our occupancy has on it, and has had throughout history.
